Sheep behaving like children in the Kingdom of Heaven

Can you find the goats who are not behaving like children? You can show them the image below if they are having a hard time finding them.

What do you think the pictures are trying to teach you about who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?

Step two - Learn

Matthew 18:1-5

Click Here to read Matthew 18:1-5.

  • What one word or idea stood out to you and why?
  • What do you think Jesus is teaching about the Kingdom of God/Heaven?
  • Name someone who is the greatest at something? Greatest basketball player? Greatest musician? Greatest artist? Greatest dancer?
  • What makes them great?
  • Jesus says to be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven we should become like children.
  • What are good qualities of children that we should copy?
  • To Children: How does it make you feel that Jesus says adults should be like you?
  • To Adults: Is it easy for you to be like a child?

Many people today think that being the greatest of all time at something is really cool. A popular acronym today is G.O.A.T. Slightly funny, since the poster is full of goats. G.O.A.T. stands for Greatest Of All Time. What does it take to become the greatest of all time at something? Skill? Hard work? Sacrifice? Smarts? The G.O.A.T. in the Kingdom of God is not known for any of those things. Jesus says that those who are like children are the G.O.A.T.S. in His new Kingdom. Children should know they are loved, feel safe in the world and be free to be curious. Those are the qualities of the G.O.A.T.s in the Kingdom of God. Children do not seek power or position. They are dependent on their parents or guardians. We serve a mighty God who loves us a great deal, can protect us from harm and wants to teach us all your life.

Step three - prayer

Read Matthew 18:1-5 again.

  • How do these verses apply to you? How will you be different?
  • Are you childlike? Do you
Prayer:

Children: Dear Jesus, help me to be okay with staying like a child and not growing up too fast. Help me to teach adults that they are loved by God, are safe in His care and that they should be curious all their lives.

Adults: Dear Jesus, help me to be more childlike. Help me to know how much you love me, feel safe in your care and not pretended like I know a lot.
