Seeds are amazing little things. Some seeds can remain asleep or dormant for more than 50 years. One seed was dormant for 2,000 years before it started growing. When there is just the right amount of water in the soil and the temperature is just right, the seed will start to grow. Whoever planted or scattered the seed doesn’t have to do anything but watch it grow.
That is what the Kingdom of God is like. When ideas about the Kingdom of God are spread and find the right conditions in someone’s heart they start to grow. God can be the one who scatters these ideas or seeds. He can use us to scatter Kingdom ideas. Once they are out there in the soil of someone’s heart God causes them to grow. We don’t do anything but watch them grow (1 Corinthians 3:6-8).
The most important event in the Kingdom of God is Jesus and what he did for us. Much like a seed, Jesus died so that we could live. He suffered and died on the cross because of the bad things we do and was raised to life after three days so that we can be forgiven and live with him. Watching that knowledge start to grow in someone’s heart is one of the most amazing things in the world to watch.

Dear God, I pray that I will always trust that you help people grow in friendship with you. I can talk about how awesome you are but you make people grow big and strong in their friendship with you. Help me not to be mean to people but to love them well. Amen!
